Year 8 pre-option choices 2022

A creative curriculum for the future

To provide a broad and balanced curriculum offer, as well as offering the opportunity to explore areas of the creative curriculum in more depth, we are asking students in Year 8 to select two of six option choices from the creative curriculum to study in Year 9. This enables students to specialise in areas of creative arts and technology, areas that they are more interested in pursuing, and means they have more time on those subjects too.
Choosing a subject to study in Y9 does not necessarily mean that the student would have to continue that subject for Y10-11. Furthermore, not choosing to study a subject in Y9 does not necessarily mean that the student cannot pick that subject again for Y10-11. However, it would make sense to bear future choices in mind at this stage.

Quality over quantity
We are committed to providing a breadth of study for our students but also want to commit the time to building skills, knowledge and understanding in a more focused approach to the arts and technology. In this way we hope to safeguard the future of all subjects in key stage four and maintain the broad curriculum offer we are proud of at Brighouse High School.

Important Dates in the Options Process
•Thursday 24th March: Pre-options presentation in Y8 assembly.
•Monday 28th March: Pre-options information booklets issued to students. Pre-options information and videos will also be available on the website.
•Week beginning Monday 28th March: Opportunity for further discussions in Y8 lessons in Technology, Drama, Art and Music.
•Wednesday 6th April: Pre-options ‘academic fair’ so that students can talk to teachers and Y9 students about pre-options.
•Tuesday 26th April: Deadline for filling in the online pre-options form.
